After Quick Intervention by Durkin/Curran, IDOT Accelerates 159th Street Construction

After recently being notified of delays in construction on 159th Street that could extend into 2020, village officials reached out to their state legislators for assistance.

Less than 24 hours later, State Representative Jim Durkin and State Senator John Curran (both Republicans), were at village hall meeting with Mayor Yukich and village officials.  After being briefed on the adverse effects this delay would have on our community, they immediately began pushing IDOT to accelerate its construction timeline.

As a result of their efforts, Randy Blankenhorn, Secretary of IDOT came to Homer Glen this week to tour the project and days later informed the village that IDOT had approved accelerated construction for 159th Street.   The accelerated timeline cuts nearly a year off of the project.

This is great news for Homer Glen and particularly for residents and businesses along the 159th Street Corridor.  While the widening of 159th Street is welcome, the multi-year construction has hampered existing businesses and slowed development of new projects.  An additional delay into 2020, would have been devastating.

“Thanks to the influence of Republican leaders like Rep. Jim Durkin and Sen. John Curran, Homer Glen got quick results.  We are very appreciative of their efforts on our behalf,” stated Brian Burian, Chairman of the Homer Township Republicans.
